The Contribution of Ocean-going Shipping to the Greek Economy

Category: Microeconomic Analysis
SubCategory: Others
Date: 07/01/2013

The study’s scope was to outline the current contribution of the ocean-going shipping to the Greek economy and to estimate its potential contribution under the hypothetical scenario of expanding the number of vessels managed in Greece. We estimated the direct, indirect and induced effects from both current and potential activity in merchant shipping, using an Input-Output model of the Greek economy. The study concluded with policy suggestions to tackle the factors preventing the full utilisation of Greek-owned shipping’s potential.
